He is best known for his works of fiction, such as "The Chronicles of Narnia" series, and his Christian apologetics, including "Mere Christianity" and "The Problem of Pain." A former atheist turned Christian, he became a profound voice in religious and philosophical discussions, blending rich storytelling with deep theological insights. Lewis was a close friend of fellow author J.R.R. Tolkien, and the two were part of the informal literary group known as the Inklings. His academic career was distinguished by his tenure as a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University and later as the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University.
